Everything You Need to Know About the Vietage

The Vietage is truly a unique experience because it’s the only true luxury train in Vietnam, and it only has space for 12 passengers at a time. The route goes into central Vietnam, to an area that isn’t as popular with tourists and that has much less to see in terms of attractions. Ultimately, you visit this area of Central Vietnam to relax and unwind as you travel between the North and South, which is exactly what we did!

The luxurious Vietage train runs daily between Da Nang – Quy Nhon and Nha Trang – Quy Nhon (beginning May 2024). You can view the train schedule here. The train typically has a morning and an evening option. It has two carriages with private booths and seating for up to 12 passengers per journey, which means every guest gets a window seat! Passengers can choose to convert the booths into sleeper booths during the evening journey. We took the day train to see the view the entire time in daylight.

The train also has a sit-up bar, a private bathroom, and an area for private massages.

During the journey on Vietnam’s most coveted luxury train, the staff offers guests an incredible 3-course gourmet meal, unlimited wine, cocktails, mocktails, teas, coffee, and soft drinks, along with a 15-minute head and shoulder massage. Guests select their meals ahead of time to allow the staff time for preparation.

Luxury Train Itinerary

We had just finished spending a few days at the Anantara in the charming city of Hoi An before taking the Vietage. I suggest either staying in the beach town Da Nang, or in Hoi An before heading to the Vietage.

When we arrived at the train station around 7:30 AM in Da Nang, the Vietage staff immediately greeted us. They assisted with our bags and escorted us to a reserved area at the train station. In this area, we received a welcome drink and two keepsake paper tickets for our journey. Once the guests on the other rail cars finished boarding, the staff welcomed us aboard. The Vietage occupies only a few carriages at the end of the train, which has many carriages.

After boarding, we enjoyed delicious handcrafted coffee drinks and pastries, which was perfect because we hadn’t had breakfast. We relaxed, ordered mocktails (too early for alcohol even though the cocktails looked incredible!!), and enjoyed the beautiful view through the countryside. We saw so many lush rice paddies and buffalo along the way. After about an hour or two, a staff member personally invites each guest to a private room for a short 15-minute massage (don’t worry, no oil is used!). The coconut coffee was INCREDIBLE! Everything about the service was impeccable on this luxury train experience in Vietnam.

The Vietage Meal

As lunch approached, we ordered wine and cocktails. The bartender perfectly crafted the cocktails, and the chef prepared an exceptional meal. See the menu below! We selected a delicious green bean and quinoa salad for our appetizer and a braised wagyu neck for our entree. The dessert was a chocolate creme brulee. The chef prepares everything beautifully, and the dishes are delicious. It wasn’t exactly Vietnamese food, but we still appreciated something a little different from everything we had been eating.

Towards the latter half of the journey, the train runs along the coast past many small seaside towns. We arrived around 2:30PM in Quoy Nhon, and took a taxi to the Anantara Quoy Nhon Resort. Ultimately, the train ride is a bit pricey, but we thought the experience of taking Vietnam’s only luxury train was well-worth it. After weeks of eating cheap street food in Southeast Asia we didn’t feel so bad indulging in this unique experience.

How to Book Tickets

The cost of the tickets is $420/pp.

As a certified Travel Advisor I can book your tickets on the Vietage and at any hotels or resorts during your stay in Vietnam. Please reach out to me at [email protected] to book your rail tickets!

Tip: Anantara only sells a certain number of Vietage tickets to guests not staying at their hotels and you need to book very early to secure seats. They leave some seating for guests who stay at least 2 nights at their Hoi An property, and 2 nights at one of their Quoy Nhon properties. They have an Anantara and an Avani in Quoy Nhon. This is what we did.

Truthfully I wasn’t sure about the stay in Quoy Nhon, but we ended up loving it.

Anantara Quoy Nhon

Once you arrive in Quoy Nhon, I recommend staying a couple of nights at Anantara’s tranquil Quoy Nhon Resort. Quoy Nhon is a quiet, slow-paced beachside town, perfect for relaxing and recharging. After days of zooming motorbikes and honking cars, this quiet resort offers a respite from the city. Truthfully, I didn’t even know what to do with myself for the first day – I’m so used to moving around and walking 10+ miles a day in Hanoi and Hoi An that it took me a while to relax and enjoy doing nothing!

Anantara Quoy Nhon is a beautiful resort with a huge sandy beach, a huge pool and swim-up bar, an incredible restaurant, and a spa. Many of the villas have their own infinity pool and a beautiful space to relax and unwind. The food was INCREDIBLE. It was some of the best we ate during our 2-weeks in Vietnam. The hotel had all sorts of lovely touches during our stay – macaroons and fruit upon arrival, nightly dessert delivered to our room, afternoon tea, and more.

There are a few things to do in the area, but we mostly just relaxed and enjoyed the beach.
